I am enclosing a page (below) that will not render in Safari unless the <object> tags are commented out. This does not seem right since it IS in the HTML 4.01 standard. The link from Apple might explain Apple's position except that there is nothing on the W3C site to support the statement. http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/objects.html Inquiring minds.... Standard HTML Tags Safari and the Web Kit implement a large subset of the HTML 4.01 Specification defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This reference defines every symbol in the specification that Safari implements. If a tag is not listed here or in " HTML Extensions " , it is not supported by Safari and the Web Kit. Some tags are also marked as deprecated, which means they are supported by Safari, but since they are no longer supported by the HTML specification are not guaranteed to be supported in the future. Object - Specifies the URL of a serialized applet in an applet element. Deprecated in HTML 4.01 along with the applet element. http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariHTMLRef/Articles/StandardHTMLTags.html Though I think they mean Applet not Object. University of Tennessee students will have the opportunity to trade in an aluminum can or plastic bottle for a fresh-baked cookie Tuesday and Wednesday as part of UT's Cookies for Cans program, sponsored by UT Recycles and Team Vols. The program will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Presidential Courtyard and Wednesday March 1 at the Joe Johnson and John Ward Pedestrian Mall. Students trading in their cans and bottles will also learn more about UT's participation in the national RecycleMania competition. More than 90 colleges and universities are competing to collect the largest amount of recyclables, the least amount of trash, and have the highest recycling rate over a 10-week period. on the newest nightly r13060 it does seem to cause it to hide the items. But this code most certainly does not pass w3c spec. it has all sorts of problems .
