Screen recording of testing the reference example in VoiceOver

VoiceOver does not announce the formatting applied via strong, em, b or i elements.

I tested using a very rudimentary example page using Safari 13.1 in Mac OS 10.15.4.

To reproduce this issue:
1. Go to https://codepen.io/toddlr/pen/PoPBoxO
2. Choose "Speak attributes" for the "When text attributes change" in VoiceOver's Verbosity settings
3. When focused on a text node pressing VO + t to speak the text attributes
4. I have attached a screen recording for you to verify

VoiceOver does announce formatting of bold and italics in TextEdit

I tested a similarly formatted, simple document in TextEdit and the formatting WAS announced by VoiceOver.

Any update on this issue? It has been open for ~2 months without any perceivable progress.

We have determined that this is a VoiceOver only issue. The bug has been reported to that team and the radar in this report will be used to track it. Thank you

This appears to have been fixed based on testing in Safari Version 15.6.1 (17613.3.9.1.16), on Mac 12.6 (21G115).

[Still an issue in Chrome unfortunately.]
