Description Nazar Mokrynskyi 2020-12-20 07:09:57 PST
When using H264 encoding in WebRTC Safari tab crashes (looks like restart) after under 30 seconds.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Go to https://v3demo.mediasoup.org/?forceH264=true
2) Grant access to audio/video
3) Wait under 30 seconds
4) Tab will crash/restart on itself

System info:
Safari 14.0.2 (16610.3.7.1.9)
macOS 11.1 with latest updates available as of right now
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) Model A1707 EMC 3162

Additional info: doesn't seem to happen on some of the newer models from 2018.

Could you please attach a crash log from ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ ?

I can reproduce a crash on my M1 MacBook Pro, and that one is tracked as bug 219588. I hope that it's the same issue, but let's confirm with a crash log.

This is a different crash signature than in bug 219588. I was able to find a 2017 MacBook Pro, and this reproduces as you described, with the same crash log.

I'm also hitting a crash using a 16" MacBook Pro, and I'm getting a different yet crash there. Hopefully, they all share the root cause, despite different signatures.

Is there any estimate when to expect this to be resolved?

It is pretty bad that preferred codec in Apple browser on Apple OS on Apple hardware crashes.

Could you please check if this still reproduces with macOS 11.2? I believe that it should be fixed with this release.
Comment 7 Nazar Mokrynskyi 2021-02-08 15:49:56 PST
macOS 11.2 works flawlessly, thanks!
Comment 8 Alexey Proskuryakov 2021-02-08 19:07:56 PST
Thank you for confirming! I'll mark this INVALID as this was not a WebKit issue.
